It's been a few days, but I've finally gotten my Ebune Festival pictures up.
I think they mostly speak for themselves, but I will say that the procession was one of the most amazing, serene experiences I've had in a long time. In addition to the colors, drums, excitement, and throngs of people, there was a real sense of new beginnings in the air.
I'd never taken part in a ritual that ushers in a new season. Not a real one, anyway. And despite what the funny masks, bright ribbons, and children in costume might imply, this was the real deal. And Oscar, the Nigerian chief and healer—he's the real deal, too. I learned things about him, things that he's done and made possible for people that have convinced me that there's a lot more going on with him than meets the eye.
But why be so serious? Spring came to Portland that day, and and for the first time since All Saints' Day, I can smell the earth again.
The product of this year's and past years' labors.
